Established in 1960, this pioneering cooperative unites nearly 900 producer members from across the lush canton of Dota in the province of San José.

Driven by an unwavering respect for the environment, CoopeDota is home to the world’s first certified carbon-neutral coffee mill. Powered by hydro energy, the mill uses water efficient eco-pulpers (also known as demucilagers) and mechanical dryers fueled by coffee parchment, ensuring every step of production minimizes its environmental footprint.

But sustainability at CoopeDota extends far beyond the mill. The cooperative also supports the local community of Santa María de Dota, managing the town’s trash collection and promoting eco-conscious living.

Beyond their dedication to the planet and its farmers, CoopeDota cultivates a thriving ecosystem of innovation, from their agricultural supply store and tourism initiatives to three cafés, their own roastery, and a barista training center.
