The story begins with Don Manuel Rojas Arias, the pioneering coffee farmer who transformed the western slopes of the Escazú Mountains into thriving coffee lands. His success inspired others to convert their sugar plantations into coffee farms, forever shaping the region’s agricultural landscape. After his passing, his sister Doña Romelia carried on his legacy with unwavering dedication, preserving the farm’s high standards and contributing to it’s enduring reputation.

Don Manuel also founded Beneficio Palmichal in 1933, a mill that processed thousands of bags of award winning SHB coffee. The result of the coffee so remarkable, it set the standard for Costa Rican quality.
